Dementia can occur at any age and although the onset is usually after 65 younger can sometimes also be affected.
Symptoms of dementia may include:
- Problems remembering things that have happened recently. This is due to short term memory loss. Although the person will be happy to talk about things that have happened a long time ago they will have problems remembering this morning or last night or what they had for lunch for instance.
- They may be puzzled or disorientated or not know what day or year it is or even what time of day it is.
- They may have problems finding the right words to explain something.
- There may be depression
- Eventually long term memory will also suffer as the Dementia progresses.
Although dementia is not curable as such there are many groups and organisations that will give help and assistance and there are complementary therapies and herbal remedies that may help.
